ROCKY MOUNTAIN WORK & WITNESS SPECIAL PROJECT
MOUNTAIN VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH CONSTRUCTION
What?
Construction of a new church building. This will be a one-story church building that will include sanctuary, classrooms, baths, and kitchen.
Where?
Twin Bridges, MontanaTwin Bridges is a town with a population of about 400 in an area of Southwest Montana rich in history and western lore. The mainstay of the economy is ranching and agriculture. The Baptist church is currently meeting in a mobile home unit and has outgrown that facility. Their desire is to have a building to worship in that will be attractive to those in their community. The church has already begun raising the needed funds.
Who?
Volunteer Construction TeamsTeams of 10-20 adults are needed to complete all phases of the building project. Each team should have a “core” of volunteers who have solid construction experience and know-how. Sharon White will coordinate meals. Each team needs to bring one person to assist her.
When?
Spring and Summer 2008
The project is set to begin in late May and run through early September 2008.
How?
Teams will sign up for a date and corresponding construction phase through North Carolina Baptist Men. When an assignment is made, the team leader will maintain contact with David White, who will be on-site coordinator along with his wife Sharon for the time North Carolina teams are there. Each team member will register with NC Baptist Men, and be signed up for the volunteer insurance ( $5 per person).
Field Costs:
Teams will arrange their own travel. Driving is certainly an option. Round-trip airfare into Billings, MT averages between $400 - $600. Van rental runs between $400-500 for a week (mini-van). The church is working on options for team housing, from “rustic” to hotel. Some RV hookups will also be available. Twelve dollars ($12) per person per day covers the cost of three meals. Sharon White will coordinate the purchase of food and the cooking of meals for the teams.
Other Costs:
Each team will be asked provide $1000 - 2000 toward the purchase of building supplies for the project if possible.
