THE OLD STONE CHURCH RENOVATION
THE PROJECT : The Old Stone Church in North Bennington, Vermont is an old historic church that has been given to the Green Mountain Baptist Association. Teams are needed to come work on the renovation of the building and help with the finances to do so. The project will have a coordinator to help oversee the work of teams. Each team needs to have several members who are experienced and knowledgeable in construction (as well as plumbing, electrical, etc. as is called for according to the task). As many as twelve NC teams will be needed to complete this initial stage of renovation. Each team will be asked to provide $5000 to aide in the overall cost of the project (materials, equipment rental, etc.) The $5000 should be sent to the Green Mountain Baptist Association one month before teams arrive in order to have materials on site. Teams may be able to stay at a local Christian school facility for a moderate price, or make arrangements at a local motel or B&B. Teams will need to provide own meals and local transportation.
THE REASON : The process of renovating an old historic church has proven to be a very effective springboard to planting a church in Vermont. Not only do Vermonters see a beloved part of their town heritage being restored, but also they have the chance to witness the dedication of Christian volunteers who come all the way from North Carolina. This is an exciting opportunity for NC Baptists!
ADDITIONAL MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES : Construction teams are encouraged to participate in a variety of possible outreach and ministry activities while in Bennington. These may include Backyard Bible Clubs, Vacation Bible School, providing Christian music to area nursing homes, Sports Camps, Block Parties, and Prayer Walking. These activities will be scheduled and coordinated with local leadership so as to avoid duplication.
