KENYA WORK AND WITNESS TEAMS

Kenya_Special1 Kenya_Special2

North Carolina Baptist Men, working in cooperation with the Baptist Convention of Kenya, will sponsor teams to the African nation of Kenya. The nature of the mission effort will be two-fold: 1) to aid in the construction of a dormitory for the Kenya Baptist Theological College; and 2) to send evangelism/outreach teams to two strategic areas of the country.

Construction Teams for KBTC:

Located in the beautiful Limuru area of Kenya (elev. 9000’), just north of Nairobi, the Kenya Baptist Theological College is sponsored by the Baptist Convention of Kenya. The campus is located on fifty acres adjacent to the Brackenhurst Baptist International Center. The programs at KBTC are designed to equip pastors, teachers, and other leaders in developing their knowledge of Scripture and their ministry skills. KBTC students serve as pastors, teachers, and ministry leaders in churches across East and Central Africa.

The immediate need is to aid in the construction of a new men’s dormitory. Five teams of 10-14 are needed to go for 15 days. Each team will need a core group who have construction skills and experience. The team will be housed and fed on the premises. There will be a Kenyan foreman and skilled laborers who will work with the team. Cost of the project will be $2400 per person. This will include airfare, food, lodging, in-country transportation, orientation, volunteer insurance, and a contribution toward building materials.

Evangelism/Outreach Teams:

Two strategic locations have been identified by the Kenyan Baptist Convention – Muranga and Kisumu. Both of these areas need teams to engage in a variety of evangelism and outreach activities, which may include door to door evangelism, prayer walks, children’s ministry in local schools, sports camps, music – or any combination of the above.

Muranga is about 45 minutes north of Nairobi. It is considered the home of the Kikuyu tribe. A young Kenyan couple has been sent out from a Baptist Church in Nairobi to start a church there. The church has seen a good deal of growth in the past year. This couple needs teams from North Carolina to come help them do evangelism and outreach in Muranga and the surrounding area.

Kenya_LionKisumu is a town on the shores of huge and beautiful Lake Victoria – home of the Luo tribe. Kisumu, and especially areas to the north, have a great need for evangelism and outreach teams to aid in the planting of churches. Many of the areas do not have a Baptist church. Each area has a church planter who will direct the work of the teams.

Cost for the evangelism teams will range from $3000-3600 per person, depending on available airfare. (These teams require a van and driver to accomplish their ministry, and additional housing costs.)

Teams will have the option of a one-night stay at a game park. Cost for this would be approximately $180 additional. If team chooses not to do the game park they can work those days.
