HONDURAS
The Baptist State Convention of NC enjoyed six fruitful years of Partnership in Honduras (2001-2006). While the official Partnership with the country of Honduras will conclude at the end of 2006, NC Baptist Men will continue to send teams to Southern Honduras. The need there is still great, and many in North Carolina have developed a heart for Honduras. |
EVANGELISTIC FOCUS: The purpose of our being in Honduras will continue to be partnering with Honduran congregations in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. All teams (including construction) will be encouraged to participate in evangelistic outreach to the community in which they work. This may include prayer walks, door-to-door visitation, the showing of the “Jesus” film, VBS or Backyard Bible Clubs for the children, etc. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your team. |
TRIP COST: The basic price of the trip will remain $950 per person for now. This includes round-trip airfare, insurance, in-country transportation, lodging, meals, orientation materials, and T-shirt. You will need to take an additional $35 cash with you for airport exit tax, plus money for souvenirs you may want to buy. (Price does not include materials that will be needed for ministry, i.e., VBS materials, building materials, medical supplies, etc. See below.) We will make every effort to keep this price as low as possible. |
MATERIALS COST: Each team must provide the cost of materials for construction projects. The cost of each project may vary. If a construction project, the required amount must be received in our office 30 days prior to your departure date so that work may begin on the foundation, and materials be on-site prior to your arrival. Medical teams will also incur some costs to cover the costs of Honduran doctors and other expenses. Evangelism teams will supply their own needed materials. |
TEAMS: Teams should be comprised of no more than 12 members, and no less than 7 members. Having a Spanish translator on each team will be very helpful to every team. Evangelism teams will need two translators. In most cases, we cannot provide translators for teams. Construction teams need at least two members who have strong construction and/or block laying skills. On-site coordinators will arrange logistics, but will not serve as the construction supervisor. Each team should bring two people to cook or be prepared to rotate that duty among team members. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate (16 if accompanied by a parent). |
HEALTH: Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. Many areas of work will be quite hot and dusty. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Malaria pills are also required. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Honduras. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.) |
TRAVEL: All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men. Trip dates are listed on the back of this page. All trips will be nine days in duration. No deviations may be made from listed dates. Volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Greenville (SC), or Atlanta. (Travel may be possible from other cities, but may involve an additional cost.) |
LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS: . Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot. Once applications and deposits have been received, team members will be sent an orientation manual, which will answer many questions about the trip. There is a special orientation manual for medical teams. |
OTHER: Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Honduran Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Honduras. |
