ARMENIA PARTNERSHIP
NC Baptist Men will be doing projects in Armenia in 2008. We will purchase buildings that can be renovated or buy land to build a small building so they will have a place for worship. There are several buildings available to be completed. Most worship in the church planter’s home or a rented apartment. Due to the economy the Armenians cannot afford to purchase and renovate these buildings.
PURPOSE: The purpose of these projects is construction and evangelism in Armenia. Teams will have an opportunity to visit, work with and get to know Armenians as well as worship in their Baptist churches. Team members are encouraged to affirm our Baptist brothers and sisters and share their faith with people they meet.
TRIP COST: The basic price of the trip is $1800 to $2000 per person: $1800 for a team of ten (10) people; $2000 for a team of less than ten (10). This includes round-trip airfare, insurance, in-country transportation, lodging, most meals, orientation materials, and T-shirt. You will need to take additional $55 cash with you for airport entry and exit visa, plus spending money. (Price does not include materials that will be needed for ministry, i.e., VBS materials, building materials, etc. See below).
MATERIALS COST: Each team must provide the cost of materials for most projects. The cost for building materials for each team will depend on the project, but you should plan on $2,000 to $4000per project.
TEAMS: Teams should be comprised of no more than 12 members. Some construction and Vacation Bible School knowledge is helpful. Glasses (reading glasses) are always needed by the Armenians. On-site coordinators will arrange logistics for teams. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to participate.
PARTICIPATION: Those wishing to participate should do the following:
- Complete the volunteer application form and return it to Baptist Men’s Office, as soon as possible. Deposit of $200.00 per person due at least 90 days prior to your anticipated departure date. The final balance payment per person is due no later than 30 days prior to the date of your departure. If you are a member of a team, please send your application to the team leader in time for him or her to have them in to our office ASAP so tickets and seats may be reserved. (Once tickets are purchased, they are non-refundable and non-transferable).
- Have a valid passport. If you do not have a valid passport you will need to get one immediately. It usually takes 4-8 weeks to process a new passport.
- Submit any necessary funds for materials to our office 60 days prior to your departure date.
HEALTH: Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. Many areas of work will be quite hot and dusty. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Armenia. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.)
TRAVEL: All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men’s office. Any deviations from dates listed must be approved by NCBM. All volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Asheville, or Atlanta. (Travel may be possible from other cities, but may involve an additional cost.)
LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be strenuous and the climate will be different. Once applications and deposits have been received, team members will be given information, which will answer many questions about the trip.
OTHER: Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Armenian Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Armenia.
Contact North Carolina Baptist Men for an updated list of Armenia project request/dates. We will endeavor to help churches combine for a team of ten (10) to fly together for less expensive fare. Contact Jim Burchette, 1.800.395.5102 x5612 or jburchette@ncbaptist.org.
