Christian High Adventure (CHA) is a week long Christian experience in backing on and around the Appalachian Trail. Sponsored by the North Carolina Baptist Men's Department of the Baptist State Convention, CHA seeks to relate the adventure of a wilderness backpacking trip to the adventure of the Christian walk. During the week, participants learn about hiking, trail procedures, selecting and setting up camp, cooking, equipment and clothing, reading a map, rappelling, first aid, safety, and sanitation. Beyond the technical skills learned on the trail, participants are challenged to explore their relationship with God throughout the course of the trip. Each morning begins with a time of Bible study and quiet time. Evenings are concluded with a rap session during which participants are encouraged to share spiritual insights gained during the course of the day. A week in this environment serves as a silent reminder of God's eternal purpose for each of us. There is also a strong emphasis on conservation and being a good steward of God's total creation. Group building and responsibility are stressed, as participants are part of hiking and cooking groups each day. They learn to carry their fair share of the load, as well as to work as a team to accomplish their goals.

Very Affordable
The cost of participating on a CHA week is $195 per person. This cost includes transportation from Camp Caraway (near Asheboro, NC) to the trail head and back, all food, supplies, instruction, and use of all needed backpacking equipment. This makes it possible for you to experience such an adventure without purchasing hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. You will need to provide your own boots and personal clothing.

Participants must be physically capable of carrying a pack that weighs 30-40 pounds. Trips are not designed to overwork participants, but there is some physical stress involved. Each trip is limited to 12 participants. Two college aged CHA staffers of proven spiritual maturity and technical expertise will lead each trip.
